Liposuction
Liposuction is a very effective method of body shape correction. This surgery helps to remove local accumulations of fat of certain size in different areas of the body. Most often these accumulations form in the inner and outer thighs, chin, chest, in the front part of the abdomen, buttocks, knees and the upper part of the hands. Better results of the surgery are received when patient's skin has not lost its elasticity. In cases of extremely large accumulations of fat and reduction of tissue elasticity, the surgery may be performed in stages. Also, liposuction may be performed together with skin plasty. During consultation surgeon and patient discuss about the possible volume of the surgery and areas from which accumulations of fat will be removed. Also, it may be recommended to lose some weight before performing surgery.

- Duration of the surgery: it depends on the volume of the surgery. Usually it takes 1-3 hours.
- Anaesthesia: general anaesthesia (narcosis).
- Surgery: there are many methods of liposuction, but the essence is the same. A cannula which has one or a few holes is put into the subcutaneous layer through small incisions of 0.5 cm. The diameter of the cannula depends on localization of fat and its volume. The other end of the cannula is connected to a vacuum equipment, which produces negative pressure and sucks the fat out.
- Post-operative period:
- Swelling, bruising, pain and feeling of discomfort can last up to 2-3 weeks.
- In order to accelerate the healing processes, physiotherapy procedures may be recommended.
- Final post-operative result is seen 1.5 - 2 months later.
- Compresson garment is worn for 2 - 4 weeks.
- Efficiency: if the body weight is stable, accumulations of fat cells do not regrow in the areas from which fat was removed; thus result of the surgery is long-term.
